Depressive Symptoms Risk (disabled and not supported and replaced with Mental Fitness Voice Feature scores)

Depressive Symptoms Risk scores have been tailored to correlate with the PHQ-9 questionnaire, a widely used and validated screening instrument for depression. PHQ-9 scores of 10 or above are typically used as the screening threshold. Increasing Depressive Symptoms Risk scores indicate increasing probability of screening positive for depression (PHQ-9 of 10 or above).

Note that Depressive Symptoms Risk scores nor the PHQ-9 can be used for any type of clinical diagnosis or treatment.

Depressive Symptoms Risk scores are related to symptoms such as:

  • Reduced interest of pleasure in doing things

  • Feeling down or depressed

  • Trouble falling or staying asleep

  • Having less energy or being tired

  • Poor appetite or overeating

  • Lower self-esteem

  • Trouble with concentration

  • Speaking or moving slowly

Directions to the user: “When you are ready, describe in detail how your day has been so far and some things you are looking forward to this week. Continue speaking for 30 seconds until the timer runs out.”

Recorded elicitation is a free speech sample.

Duration of recording: 30 seconds

Depressive Symptoms Risk score range: 0-100

Score ranges include:

  • Low risk: 0-64

  • Medium risk: 65-74

  • High risk: 75-100

These ranges are suitable for general purposes; other ranges and cut-offs could be appropriate for specific use cases.

Disclaimer: scores and labels are indicators of relative risk based on the user’s vocal similarity to people with that score in Sonde’s digital biobank. The Depressive Symptoms Risk measure does not diagnose any mental or other conditions and cannot be used in the medical evaluation or treatment of any condition.

Scores can be used to help promote, track, and encourage choices, which, as part of a healthy lifestyle, may help to reduce the risk or impact of depressive symptoms.
